چکیده

Liquid–liquid emulsions are used in many sectors such as personal care, home and food products. There is an increasing need for developing compact modular devices producing with desired droplet size distribution (DSD). In this work, we have experimentally computationally investigated application of vortex-based hydrodynamic cavitation (HC) device emulsions. The focus on understanding drop breakage occurring a single-pass through the considered HC device. experiments were performed generating oil-in-water emulsion containing 1%–20% rapeseed oil. effect pressure across range 50–250 kPa was examined. DSD produced single pass measured using focussed beam reflectance measurements. Comprehensive computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model based Eulerian approach developed to simulate multiphase cavitating flow. Using simulated flow, population balance (PBM) appropriate kernels solved showed excellent efficiency (nearly 1% which much higher than other commercial rotor–stators or sonolators) able reduce mean from 66 ~15 μm pass. CFD PBM models DSD. presented results will be useful researchers engineers interested

Drop-breakage in Agitated Liquid-liquid Dispersions

Experimental data from batch vessels on cumulative volumetric drop-size distributions at various times are shown to yield useful information on probabilities of droplet-breakup as a function of drop-size. Such information is sufficient for a priori prediction of drop-sizes in agitated dispersions in batch and continuous vessels. It may also be useful in predicting heat and/or mass transfer in l...

Creation of cavitation activity in a microfluidic device through acoustically driven capillary waves.

We present a study on achieving intense acoustic cavitation generated by ultrasonic vibrations in polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) based microfluidic devices. The substrate to which the PDMS is bonded was forced into oscillation with a simple piezoelectric transducer attached at 5 mm from the device to a microscopic glass slide. The transducer was operated at 100 kHz with driving voltages ranging be...

Questions Regarding Nuclear Emissions in Cavitation Experiments

Taleyarkhan et al. (1) claimed evidence for D-D (deuterium-deuterium) fusion in cavitation experiments with deuterated acetone. A number of inconsistencies in that study, however—involving data on neutron yield, the reported response of the detector used, and coincidences between sonoluminescence (SL) and scintillator pulses—cast doubt on that claim. As pointed out by Taleyarkhan et al. (1), if...
